Where we started

Lumayard began in Oakland, California, in a rented apartment with a north-facing living room that never quite felt warm. The fix, it turned out, wasn't new furniture — it was two lamps in the right places and a string of lights across the balcony rail. That small change is the whole idea behind the store: a home feels welcoming when the light is right, and the objects around it are chosen to catch it.

We are a young store, not a heritage brand. We opened Lumayard in 2026 because we couldn't find one place that treated the inside of a home and the yard outside it as a single space. Lighting stores stopped at the back door; garden stores stopped at the front one. We wanted both, curated with the same eye.

What we choose and why

Every product on Lumayard fits one of six collections: Indoor Lighting, Outdoor and Garden Lighting, Wall and Shelf Décor, Planters and Garden Accents, Patio and Balcony Living, and Tabletop Accents. We look for pieces in warm, natural tones — sand, terracotta, rose, oat and soft white — in materials that age well: ceramic, fibre-clay, powder-coated steel, rattan and linen. We prefer warm-white light (2700K to 3000K) throughout, because it's the light that makes skin, wood and plants look their best in the evening.

We say no to a lot. If a lamp is only good-looking when it's switched off, or a planter is plastic pretending to be stone, it doesn't make the cut.

Who we're for

Lumayard is for renters and homeowners across the United States who want their space to feel considered without hiring a designer — people furnishing a first apartment, adding a reading corner, or making a small balcony somewhere they actually want to sit. Most of our customers buy a couple of pieces at a time and come back for the next room.

How we operate

Lumayard is run from Oakland, California. Every order is checked and packed within 1–3 business days and ships free to any address in the United States, with applicable taxes already included in the price. Customer support is handled by our own team, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Eastern Time, and we reply to every message within 24 hours on business days.
